Like Waters, the Toronto-based Babes suck up influences from a grab-bag of musical and pop culture scenes. They paradoxically capture the sexy fun of a Betty Page bikini shake with goth sensibilities, completely screwing with the sullen night-creature stereotype.In "Hot Foot," Baron Marcus, Boa and Devilman mix up a few B-52s (before they moved into the Love Shack) with a splash of The Cramp's "Bikini Girls with Machine Guns." Take a break from dancing with the melancholy "Sunshine on Me," which possesses Peter Murphy's spirit and flair for the dramatic.The Babes hop aboard their groovy time-machine for "Devilman," a Sha Na Na-inspired hand jive and ride the Big Kahuna with the instrumental "Droppin¹ da Curl." They try to talk some sense into Johnny before the big race down to Dead Man's Curve in "Johnny Don't Race Tonight," the gothic retelling of the classic 1964 Jan & Dean hit.
