Former Vancouver Canada independant video store The packaging is graded Very Good Cardboard case One of the earliest to make it to market from New Line Home Video's Platinum Series, The Mask offers good mastering work in both the picture and sound departments, with a 1.85:1 non-anamorphic image that has excellent colors, even in the trickier scenes, as well as a sharp, but not overly crisp image with few compression artifacts. The transfer serves the computer-generated special effects fairly well. The soundtrack is fairly straightforward Dolby Surround, clear and uncluttered, though given to the usual "sting" effects. The single-layer, double sided disc includes both widescreen and full-frame versions, as well as the French soundtrack, which is actually quite amusing. The disc also includes two deleted scenes, director's commentary, trailer, and cast biographies. Of the deleted scenes, one is more or less complete, including subtitles and music, while the other is missing effects and various shots; both are far from presentation quality. Russell's commentary is low-key, but more than adequate for taking viewers through the details of making the film; those lending an ear to this track will learn a lot about the film and the decisions made in the course of getting it to the screen. allmovie dot com
