Mississippi-born vocalist/drummer Al Wilson had two Top Ten R&B hits and one number one pop record among a string of fine singles issued in the late '60s and early '70s. Wilson moved from Mississippi to California in the late '50s, and sang with The Rollers from 1960 to 1962. He was a member of Johnny Harris & the Statesmen in the mid-'60s and then signed with Soul City in the late '60s. He had two mildly successful singles for them, including the novelty tune "The Snake" in 1968, then enjoyed his greatest record in 1973 with "Show and Tell." Although its arrangements had pop overtones and trappings, Wilson's vocals conveyed plenty of soul alongside the sophisticated horn lines. He had other moderate hits and then clicked again in 1976 with "I've Got a Feeling (We'll Be Seeing Each Other Again)," which reached number three on the R&B charts for Playboy. — Ron Wynn
