AD VITAM AETERNAM
Abstract Senses

CD

This kind of Gothic Metal, which the French of AD VITAM AETERNAM are performing, is neither new and innovative, nor especially lasting impressible on the mind: but Gothic-fans will still get pleasure from their debut-album "Abstract Senses". AD VITAM AETERNAM speak right from the start a plain language: sensitive female vocals supported by delightfully played and arranged piano music meet the common suspects of Heavy Metal: in clear growls and heavy guitars. In this case the French sound a bit too typical. The exception is the fourth song of the album "Phoney Icons", which is carried by the piano and the well trained voice of Céline de Kerliviou only. Although there are also guitars, bass and drums, but more as decorating accessory. That in some places the piano is very dominant, has a cogent argument, as co-founder Cathy Bontant is responsible for the classic instrument and also plays a substantial part regarding the songwriting. Here is maybe one of the points, why the Parisian musicians yet differ a bit from other Gothic Metal-bands. The piano builds in some songs a bearing pile - and when this is the case, AD VITAM AETERNAM sound independent and therefore interestingly.
